Seabrook owner NextEra has stirred public controversy in attempting to consolidate their emergency planning and response activities – to Florida!
Congressional delegations on both sides of the NH-MA border – along with state safety officials – have criticized the proposed move, citing concerns for public safety and calling for a local public hearing on their plans – the bare minimum of what’s needed here, which the NRC has yet to respond to. And given the fiasco in the summer of 2022 over response to a false evacuation alarm at Seabrook, one would think any slow down in response time or reduction in emergency personnel – which this plan entails – is a really bad idea!
