Have you heard recent talk about “next-generation nuclear” coming to the Granite State? Governor Ayotte, along with other New England governors, is aiming to create a “nuclear energy roadmap” for “next-generation nuclear” by next year to supposedly combat high prices and meet energy demand, while state legislators have already passed bills to enable this unfounded scheme.
While this all might at first glance sound good for business and the climate alike, “next generation” nuclear power is far from ready now, is a false solution to climate disruption and the dangers, high cost, and waste from nuclear reactors are still very much with us.
The good news is that energy solutions like solar, wind, hydropower, geothermal, and battery storage are available right now, are much cheaper and safer than nuclear energy, and are able to meet our energy demands now and into the future. What we really need in New Hampshire is a “renewable energy roadmap” to coordinate the actual energy technologies we have at hand.
On Tuesday, July 28th @ 6 – 7:30 pm, the climate action group 350NH and SAPL will host a presentation on why nuclear power is not a good climate solution, despite recent hype in the media.
