Virginia, Maryland, and North Carolina Partner on Offshore Wind

In a brilliant economic and environmental move, the governors of Virginia, Maryland, and North Carolina recently committed to developing offshore wind in the Mid-Atlantic. This partnership is a significant step forward for America’s clean energy future

The U.S. Energy Department estimates that this partnership will lead to “$57 billion in investments, support over 86,000 jobs, and provide up to $25 billion in economic output by 2030.”

Not only will this move bring industry and jobs to the region, it will also help to allay the long-term cost of environmental degradation and pollution. Sierra Club’s Beyond Coal Senior Campaign Representative, David Smedick, notes that Maryland’s 3000 miles of coastline is particularly vulnerable to climate disruption.
